FAQs

What types of reptiles do you take?

Currently, we are equipped to take in most reptile and amphibian species. However, for incredibly large snakes or monitor lizards, these will be accepted on a case-by-case basis. (If you reach out to us about a large reptile, we can discuss with you!)

What does a 501c3 mean?

You will find a lot of definitions and benefits for 501c3’s online. However, to sum it up, this means we operate as a not-for-profit, meaning we make no salaries or profits off of rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming. HOWEVER, it also means that almost all of our associated costs either come out of our own pockets, or out of generous donations of money or supplies. (Visit our Make a Donation page for more information.)

How can I adopt?

If you are interested in adding a reptile to your family, please visit our Rescue Animals page, which will allow you to see any of our currently available animals. From there, you can read more about the animal, and if he/she has any special needs, adoption fee, or specific adopter requirements. You can then visit our Adoption Process page to learn more about the adoption process. If you have any questions about an animal for adoption, reach out to us at rescaledreptilerescue@gmail.com!

I need to rehome my reptile. What do I do?

If you’ve made the tough decision to rehome your scaly friend, we are proud of you! It’s not an easy decision, but sometimes, it can be in the best interest of your reptile. Please visit our How to Rehome page for more information on the rehoming process, and to fill out the intake interest form!

Why do you charge $50 if I want to surrender my reptile?

As you are probably well aware, reptile care is expensive when done right! Many of the rescues we’ve had surrendered to us needed medical care, habitat upgrades, or diet changes. In order to care for your animal to the best of our abilities, and to provide them with an environment to thrive in until they are ready to be adopted out, we ask for this small $50 fee.
